Flying to the rescue: How HappyDoc supported hurricane relief efforts in TN and NC

At HappyDoc, we’re committed to making a positive impact on people, pets, and communities. Elevating the well-being of others drives everything we do, and giving back in meaningful ways is a core part of our mission through our TopDoc Award and initiatives like this one. When we heard about towns in Tennessee and North Carolina affected by hurricanes and flooding, we knew we had to help. We’re excited to share how we got involved and look forward to continuing to support important causes.

In late September 2024, Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm, caused catastrophic flooding and damage across the southeastern United States, particularly impacting western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. The storm resulted in over 200 deaths and left many communities isolated due to damaged infrastructure.

Sending help to isolated towns

In response to the disaster, the Statesville Regional Airport became a central hub for delivering supplies to affected areas. Over a week, 650 flights transported more than 350,000 pounds of essential items to regions in need.

All the pilots involved in these relief efforts generously volunteered their time and resources to make these deliveries possible. Their dedication and willingness to step up during a crisis ensured that critical supplies reached remote communities in need.

A HappyDoc employee’s family was volunteering, and their involvement inspired us to step up and support the mission. HappyDoc sponsored flights that delivered 2,000 pounds of supplies to the mountains of North Carolina, directly aiding communities in crisis.

"It’s amazing to meet so many pilots who have donated their time and planes to get aid to small mountain towns. It’s been a humbling experience," said Eric Kohler, one of the volunteer pilots. "You see the relief on people's faces, knowing they have supplies to keep going. It reminds you how much these efforts matter.”

Working together to make an impact

We couldn’t have done this alone. Lost Worlds Brewery collected the supplies, while HappyDoc covered the flight fuel costs to ensure the supplies reached their destination. It was a true team effort. Witnessing the community come together—from gathering supplies to coordinating flights—was both humbling and inspiring.

This experience showcased the importance of working together in times of crisis. Supporting hurricane relief reinforced the value of community and collaboration, and we are inspired to continue helping where we can. Efforts like these remind us that even small actions can have a big impact when we work together.
