Introducing HappyChart — Automated AI Dental Charts

Automated AI Dental Charts for Best Veterinary AI Scribe Software App

Your dental exams just got a whole lot faster.

If you've ever performed a dental procedure on a patient while simultaneously trying to document every finding, or worse, tried to reconstruct it all from memory afterward, you already know the problem. Veterinary dental charting is detailed, time-sensitive, and relentlessly manual. One tooth at a time. One finding at a time. All while your hands are occupied and your attention belongs to the patient on the table.

It's one of the most documentation-heavy workflows in veterinary medicine. And until now, there wasn't a better way to do it.

That's why we built HappyChart — the veterinary AI dental charting feature that handles documentation while you focus on care.

Why Dental Health Is a Top Priority in Veterinary Medicine

Before diving into the tool itself, it's worth understanding the scale of the problem your team is solving every day. According to the American Veterinary Dental College, more than 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of periodontal disease by age three. The AVMA identifies periodontal disease as the most common clinical condition in adult dogs and cats — and notes that it's entirely preventable with proper care and monitoring.

That means dental exams are one of the highest-volume, highest-stakes procedures in your practice. Thorough dental charting is not just good clinical practice — it's a legal document that tracks oral health over time, supports diagnosis, and informs treatment planning. Done well, it sets the foundation for efficient, thorough dentistry. Done poorly, it creates gaps in the record that can come back to haunt you.

The challenge is that charting every finding accurately, in the right tooth, with the right notation takes real time and focused attention — both of which are in short supply during a procedure.

What Is HappyChart?

HappyChart is HappyDoc's new veterinary AI dental charting feature. It works the same way HappyDoc handles medical records: by listening.

As your DVM or tech verbalizes findings during a dental exam, HappyDoc's veterinary AI listens and automatically populates the dental chart in real time. No clicking between teeth. No stopping mid-procedure to type a notation. No trying to remember which premolar had the slab fracture when you're writing up the record an hour later.

You talk. HappyChart charts. It's that simple.

HappyDoc is the best vet AI scribe on the market, trained on over 1.7 million real veterinary appointments and built specifically for how clinics actually work. HappyChart extends that same veterinary AI intelligence into one of the most documentation-heavy procedures your team performs.

The Real Cost of Manual Dental Charting

Dental procedures already demand a lot from your team. There's anesthesia to manage, radiographs to take, extractions to perform, and a patient who needs constant monitoring. Documentation is critical, but it competes directly with all of that for your team's time and attention.

The result? Charting that gets rushed, delayed, or delegated to whoever has a free hand. Findings noted in shorthand that never get fully fleshed out. Records that are technically complete but don't tell the whole story — which matters when a patient comes back six months later and you're trying to understand what was found, what was done, and what the plan was.

Veterinary AI scribe technology is transforming how medical records are created, freeing up DVMs and techs from 2 to 4 hours of daily documentation burden. HappyChart brings that same transformation to dental specifically, raising the standard of what a dental record can look like.

How HappyChart Works

Getting started is straightforward. Here's the flow:

  1. Navigate to a patient's profile in HappyDoc
  2. Start recording your dental exam, just like you would for any HappyDoc appointment
  3. Choose your template: HappyChart – Canine Dental or HappyChart – Feline Dental
  4. Perform your exam and verbalize your findings. HappyDoc's veterinary AI listens and populates the chart automatically
  5. Review and refine: click into individual teeth to add or edit findings as needed
  6. Add any extra notes in the resizable additional findings text boxes at the bottom of the chart
  7. Export or print: send directly to Cornerstone, Avimark, or ImproMed, or print a clean two-page report for your client

The chart itself is color-coded for instant clarity: red for extractions, yellow for fractures, blue for abnormalities, and clear notation for missing teeth (teeth that were never there, not ones that were removed).

Built for Both Canine and Feline Patients

Dental anatomy differs significantly between dogs and cats. Cats have fewer premolars and molars, and are far more prone to tooth resorption and stomatitis, while dogs more commonly present with calculus accumulation and periodontal disease. A canine dental chart is not interchangeable with a feline one — and as dvm360 notes, choosing the right chart format is a foundational step in proper dental documentation.

HappyChart accounts for all of this. There are separate chart templates for canine and feline patients, each mapped to the correct tooth numbering system. Whether you're charting a Golden Retriever's molars or a tabby's incisors, the right chart is ready to go.

What Gets Captured Automatically

When HappyDoc's veterinary AI generates a completed dental chart, here's what your team gets without lifting a finger:

  • Findings mapped to individual teeth, color-coded by type (extraction, fracture, abnormality, missing)
  • A full summary of findings, a narrative overview of what was observed across the exam
  • Procedure notes covering what was done during the appointment
  • A treatment plan outlining what comes next for this patient
  • Additional findings fields, flexible and resizable text boxes for anything that doesn't fit neatly into the chart itself

When the exam is done, your record is essentially done too. No post-procedure documentation sprint. No filling in gaps from memory. Just a complete, detailed dental chart ready to export or share.

Exporting and Sharing Made Easy

HappyChart integrates directly with the practice management systems your team already uses. When you're ready to finalize the record, you can export to Cornerstone, Avimark, or ImproMed in just a few clicks.

Need to share findings with a pet owner? HappyChart prints as a clean, two-page document: the dental chart on one page and the summary of findings on the other. It's professional, readable, and something you can actually hand to a client without apology.

Available Now, at No Additional Cost

Every HappyDoc account has access to HappyChart right now. No upgrade required, no additional fee.

The feature is currently in beta, which means we're actively refining it based on real-world use. Your feedback genuinely shapes how it develops, and we're improving it every day. If you try it and have thoughts — good, bad, or in between — we want to hear them.

The Bigger Picture: Veterinary AI That Goes Further

HappyDoc was built on a simple idea: documentation shouldn't compete with care. The more time your team spends charting, typing, and clicking, the less time and mental bandwidth they have for the patient in front of them.

As the best vet AI scribe built specifically for veterinary workflows, HappyDoc has always gone beyond basic transcription. HappyChart extends that veterinary AI philosophy into one of the most documentation-intensive procedures in your practice. It won't replace your clinical judgment — but it will handle the paperwork so you don't have to.

Your next dental exam is a great place to try it. Navigate to any patient profile, start a recording, and select the HappyChart template. We think you'll notice the difference immediately.
